Davis–Monthan Air Force Base near Tucson, Arizon is the largest aircraft boneyard of the  US Air Force.  See a description and list of air force boneyards.  The Air Force Base here was built in 1925. Aircraft boneyards are used to dismantle aircrafts for reuse or resale while the restst are then scrapped. Deserts, like in the Southwestern United States serve as locations for stroring aircrafts because the dry conditions reduce corrosion.
